"The Ealing Season" 3: Ealing & Children

Second film in a four-week season of sterling Ealing films, featuring sterling performances by children.

All screenings at 6pm; doors open 5:30pm.  Free to museum ticket holders.  (Tickets available at the door.)  First come, first seated.  Donations welcome!

Friday 8th NovemberMandy (1952). 

            An extraordinary performance by child actor Mandy Miller take us into the silent world of deaf children.  Jack Hawkins’s sensitive portrayal of her doctor won him the role that made him an international star, in The Cruel Sea.      

            Friday 15th NovemberThe Magnet (1950).       

            The young James Fox in his first starring role, in a comedy parable with a gentle touch of magic. 

            Friday 22nd NovemberThe Divided Heart (1954). 

            A child goes missing, and is rescued by a kindly and childless German couple.  Where could be the heartbreak and drama in that?  But heartbreak and drama are the inevitable consequences of the World War that has just ended, and spares neither parents nor children.

Friday 29th November:  Hue and Cry (1947). 

The proto-type Ealing comedy, set in the boys’ own adventure world of London bombsites—a delight from beginning to end.
