Man of the East (1972) [DVD]

Unofficially regarded as the third ‘Trinity’ films after They Call me Trinity (1970) and Trinity Is STILL My Name! (1971), Man of the East comes from the same Italian team of director Enzo Barboni and actor Terence Hill (born Mario Girotti).

By his dying father’s last wish, Sir Thomas Fitzpatrick Phillip Moore is send to the Wild West to become a real man. The Young English nobleman despises guns and fights, likes poems and prefers bicycles to horses. The father gives three friends (all robbers and thieves) the job of teaching Tom the way of the West. This seems an impossible task until Tom falls in love with rancher Olsen’s beautiful daughter, candida, and has to defend himself against gunman Morton Clayton, a rival for her affection.

Man of the East is an endearing, offbeat Italian spaghetti western comedy, “so amiable” - as one reviewer puts it - “that viewers become absorbed by it without even realising… It sneaks up on you.”
